Yes, informed but not inundated is a great way of putting it. For example, I definitely needed to be informed of the earthquake in Haiti to take action, but I don’t need to read the latest daily death tolls – I need to know what I can do to help instead.

I’ve been “OFF” the news for some time. It is good to be informed but you don’t need to be inundated.

Great job and getting people on track with a better frequency.

Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, I used to read the Toronto Star’s Random Acts too – great feature. It’s definitely an anomaly compared to everything else in print.

Great post, thank you! I’ve been keeping the news at arm’s length for a while now and haven’t missed a beat. When you described the woman at dinner you were essentially describing my parents. In fact, my father also forced me to read the paper and watch the news as a teenager.
