Oh yes, I agree. I wrote that article almost 2 years ago when I was still figuring out the theme of the site and thought of making a primer for beginners. Meditation has definitely evolved for me since, and something I do more personally now and don't talk much about.

i agreed with Marc on turning personal practice into some ego-boosting talks
then it gets competitive
especially for people who turn everything they do into goals..
i know b/c i used to be (am?) attached to "my meditation".. greedy, even
in zen, when you say anything, you really need to question your motive..

your breathing instruction, i found odd
e.g. to control and count the breathing
personally, even without that kind of conscious control of breathing, even trying to be as natural as possible, i find that the control is still there
i can only presume that you do that for the purpose of giving the mind a task to do so that the mind won't scatter.. then perhaps you let that go when you're more stable and calm

on not letting the mind wander (at all?)
this is my opinion
one can only control so much
of course, when you actively wait for a thought, no thought can be created
don't you kind of soak it there to make it stay still?
don't you find it paradoxical? if your attention is naturally at ease, your heart untroubled, why soak it there?

anyway my 2 cents =)

I've just started meditation and, in search of vagabonding tips, came across this article. well done, but just to reiterate, DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR MEDITATION!!!!! this will cause you to unconsciously turn any meditation session into simply \good\ or \bad\ or \relaxing\. meditation can be all of these things, sure, but to attach an adjective to it, whether in conversation or in personal reflection, will be a huge step backwards in the quest for free reign of your own mind and spirit. meditate to meditate. period.
